Dog-Friendly Office Project: The Joys of Working Remotely with Our Dogs

In the spirit of ‘Enriching the Workplace with Your Dog' at free stitch, we started the ‘Dog-Friendly Office Project’ in September 2019.

To prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 in Tokyo, the free stitch team has embraced remote work for the time being. In our series of past posts about the benefits of the Dog-Friendly Office Project, we introduced a lifestyle where owners could comfortably go to the office together with their pets; however, due to the recent spike in COVID-19 infections in Tokyo, we are staying home with our dogs and cats.

We are continuing to work as usual from home alongside our pets. We have noticed that in the two weeks since we started remote work, our pets have appeared to be less stressed and have an overall calm countenance. We have been reminded how nice it is to work together with dogs and cats.

In this blog, we would like to share with everyone some of the stories we have heard from our staff who have been enjoying working at home with their pets.

[free stitch Staff Ms. S and Her Cat: Ajiru]

Ajiru-chan likes to relax close to his owner when she is working at her computer. When he gets a stroke or tickle, he makes a low rumbling sound in her throat showing his happiness. If his owner moves to another room, Ajiru-chan follows or goes to his food bowl to wait for a tasty treat.

[free stitch Staff Ms. K and Her Dog: Kazuha]

Kazuha-kun, a large dog, looks a lot happier than usual because he can enjoy a long walk with his owner in the morning before she starts work. As his owner does not need to commute to the office like before, they can enjoy time together in the garden in the morning and during the lunch break. When our staff is working at her computer, she can hear Kazuha-kun snoring in his bed contentedly.

[free stitch Staff Ms. O and Her Cat: Yomogi]

Normally, the lights are turned off in the house when Omogi-chan’s owner is out at work. So now that his owner is at home a lot more, Omogi-chan the cat sleeps on his bed with his head buried in his paws to avoid the bright interior lights. While he enjoys his owner’s company, Omogi-chan also enjoys finding a nice, quiet, and dark place to take a sneaky nap.

[free stitch Staff Ms. K and Her Dog: Ten]

Regardless of working at home or not, Ten-chan the little dog is an integral part of his owner’s lifestyle! Now that his owner has more time at home, Ten-chan can enjoy a quiet nap together during the lunch break so that both of them can wake up feeling recharged and ready for the afternoon’s work.

free stitch is continuing to look for interesting and moving stories about how people’s lives are made better by working together with their pets, either at home or at work.
