Dog-Friendly Office Project Update: Staff Dog Yuzu Visited the free stitch Office

In July 2021, one of our staff members brought their dog ‘Yuzu’ to the free stitch office as part of the Dog-friendly Office Project.

Yuzu is an 11-year old Shiba female and she is the family member of our staff who joined us in mid-April.

While Yuzu-chan is in the office, she often takes a nap under the desk next to her owner. She enjoys coming to the office because she doesn’t need to stay home alone and can meet many new faces - this way it can help her reduce her stress.

Through the Dog-friendly Office Project, dogs who suffer when staying home alone can enjoy accompanying their owner to work so making a safe and welcoming environment is essential.

Additionally, for middle-aged dogs like Yuzu-chan, it can have a positive effect on reducing dementia and keeping the brain active by experiencing new things. Owners can also keep a close eye on changes in their physical and mental behaviour in the office more readily than if they were at home alone. Yuzu-chan’s owner has said it makes her feel relieved knowing that her dog is also safe.

In the spirit of ‘Enriching the Workplace with Your Dog" at free stitch, we started the ‘Dog-Friendly Office Project’ in September 2019 and we are actively encouraging our staff to bring their pets to work. For more information about coming to work with pets, we have drafted a set of guidelines to use as a reference.
